Today is the release of the much-anticipated Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. And we had the privilege of collaborating with Skype ahead of the premiere to truly engage fans in both LA and New York.
Skype positioned large screens in Flatiron Plaza in the Big Apple to connect east coast fans to the premiere happening across the country in Los Angeles. Setting up a virtual red carpet, Skype provided a special portal to the stars and event. Fans’ tweets and comments were showcased for all to see, as well as connecting children involved in New York’s Police Athletic League to chat with Chris Pratt, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel and Zoe Saldana (to name a few) on Skype.
The festivities included a special virtual dance-off to give some lucky fans passes for a later screening. All this turned into some solid social traction. Leading up to the release today, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy has garnered more than 490,000 mentions and 34,000 photos. While mostly in focused in the United States, it did translate to some upward growth for Skype’s social communities (adding almost 14,000 new Twitter followers and 150,000 new likes).
